I remember waking up on a cold monday morning and thinking to my self "oh! God, here we go again" (well I didn't say it like that. If i told you exactly how I said it, you definitely might not understand me, well because you do not speak baby). I was a 6 years old boy who was about to resume school and trust me I didn't like it, even though my dad had explained to me over and over again why it was imperative I went to school, but I just saw it as torture, and there was nothing no one could say that would make me see school any other way. But what I didn't know was that everything was going to change on this very day, because that was the day I met Clarity.
I would love to go into details, describing how her long black hair danced in sync with the wind, just like in Bollywood movies, how the sunlight bounced off her beautiful black skin radiating it's glory, and how her smile melted my soft 6 years old heart. I would really love to go into details, but it's been long, as I am quite older now.
But one thing I will never forget, is how I felt on meeting her for the first time. I felt liberated, it was like I could see, as if the scales that were blinding me fell off my eyes and I could finally see, I could see a reason to study, a purpose.
from then on, It didn't matter if math was scary, or how many strokes of the cane Mr Lanre would flog me, I was always eager to return to school.
Why? because of Clarity my beautiful, kind, intelligent and sensitive teacher. (what! You thought she was a student?)
BTW, the story above was made up, well most if it. But I hope you liked it.
What is Clarity?
Clarity is not an imaginary beautiful ebony woman, on the contrary, Clarity is a State of total lucidity, a state of understanding. It is a state everyone wants to achieve at one point in time.
If you've ever felt like, you are living in a fog, and you can't seem to make heads or tails of anything, you can't seem to make decisions or stop your mind form racing, you just cannot seem to concentrate on anything. Then you get it.
I have felt like that a couple of times and honestly it's not the best feeling because,
1. It frustrates you
2. It hinders you from making decisions, setting goals that would move your life forward in the direction you would like it to go.
3. It affects your confidence, by creating doubts and confusion.
The reasons above is why everyone needs and wants clarity. But the sad thing is, not everyone finds it, and when some do find it, it would already be late.
How Do I get Clarity?
I read a post on the mindsetmamas on clarity, they talked about an article Justin Rosenstein wrote on how to get clarity.
To summarize, there are basically 4 ways to achieve clarity. There need to be clarity around the. What, How, Who and Why.
You need to ask yourself these questions and answers them honestly.
1. The Who?
The is the first question for obvious reason, because the first step to finding clarity is knowing yourself, who you are, what type of person you are. It's funny because some people do not know this, and that's why you see them trying to impersonate someone else, they are lost. Knowing yourself, the type of person you are is key to finding clarity.
2. The What?
This is the next question you ask yourself, What is it that you want?
What do you need?
I'll be honest with you, gaining total clarity means that you've arrived at the what, and if you can know your "what", then you already have clarity.
3. The Why?
This is your reason, this validates your what, without this you might end up being confused all over again, because your "WHY" is what drives you, to get your "WHAT"
4. The How?
Once you've gotten your "WHY", this is where you decide on how you are going to get there. create a plan, set goals and achieve them.
This process is going to Involve a lot of SELF REFLECTION, and you can do this by:
1. Knowing what you are unclear about
2. Get your thoughts on paper, write down your answers.
3. Unplug by simply sitting down, and removing every source of distraction, especially technologies, and meditate (deep thinking).
After SELF REFLECTION, you need to TAKE ACTION. This is where most people miss it. We don't take action, sometimes taking action helps you get the clarity you are seeking. And I am a good example before I started my blog, I was confused on what type of content I should be put out, and how will I do it. I was confused for a long time, but when I took a step of faith, after a lot of self reflection and praying here I am now finding my clarity. That might not be the best motivational story you've heard but it is a testimony that proves that, what you need sometimes is just to take a step, a leap of faith.
And finally, you need to talk to someone, either a friend or a family, someone you can trust, because sometime all you might need to get your clarity is SUPPORT from someone, the truth is doing everything alone is risky, and stressful, but when you have someone to share your burden with, it makes it easier.
Finding clarity is a journey, and all journey takes time, the time might be different for everyone because the routes are different. I hope you find your route and complete your journey. I Hope You get then Clarity you need, in whatever ever area of your life you might need it.
