What If Success Is Not All YOU Think It Is?

WHAT’S YOUR DEFINITION OF SUCCESS?

While we were younger, we’d talk to ourselves.

As children, we’d define our future success by the amount of money we would like to make and lucrative careers that we dreamt off pursuing. I’m sure we remember how as children we only wanted to become DOCTORS, LAWYERS, PILOTS e.t.c. But Something happened. Science termed it PUBERTY. After that, a  lot of things changed. We changed. So did our perspective of success.

So, what is SUCCESS?

In one word, success is GROWTH.

Success is beyond how much money we acquire in our lifetime, how many houses we build or acquire or the amount of power and influence you have, it's much more than that. Success has been misunderstood far too long. I hope our views are corrected or improved after reading this.

Success is not only getting to the top. sometimes, even getting down can be a success.

Dr. Myles Munroe wrote in one of his book, UNDERSTANDING YOUR POTENTIAL:

If I held a seed in my hand and I asked you what it is, you would state the obvious—a seed, when in real sense, I hold a forest. Everyone has a Potential (seed), everyone has the ability, untapped power, reserved ideas that can change the world.

Success is not an acronym, like how most of those 2k motivational speakers would define it(I'm sorry I went there) with so many words. Success is a tree from our invested or explored potentials. It is but a phase. It is a mark in the process. It is not an end state or rather a final state, it should be seen as just a state. It only stops when one is dead cause growth stops when one dies. Success is in levels, higher levels can be attained because you have the ability to do more than you think. Unlike biological growth, a person is able to be successful after death, this is called a LEGACY.

Mathematically, success is POTENTIAL+HARDWORK. This brings us to our next question.

HOW CAN I BE SUCCESSFUL?

This question isn’t really dealt with during seminars or talks, even when it is, they’re just brushed through. So let’s talk about it.

1.Discover your Potential: This is what you can do but haven’t done yet. When you achieve something, it no longer a potential because it is already done—Dr. Myles Munroe. Discovering your potentials requires you to think deep and this is one of the greatest problem of our generation. We’re so used to technology, and we’ve become so lazy because it’s so easy to get a lot of things done. Now we have a lot of irrelevant youths because they have refused to stay relevant in this tech age.

A story I once heard of a man who became a millionaire by only suggesting to the toothpaste company to make the opening of their product wider. He was able to solve their problem for them, because he thought deep and made millions just by making a suggestion. Potential!

2.Determination: Ben Carson, from being the dullest kid in his class to being the first neurosurgeon to successfully separate a Siamese twin. How? He pushed hard and through. You can be the best. It’s not impossible! It’s okay to be good in everything you do, skill, studies, character and so much more. Determination will help you get there. Only if you would try 1000 ways of possibilities like Thomas Edison. A lazy person will be successful at one thing. FAILURE! Stay focused and diligent. Work on your mind, you can’t go beyond your mind’s limit.

3.Learn to save: I’d recommend you read this book –the richest man in Babylon. Oh! How I wish we were given books like this to read in our primary schools rather than Abo and the crocodile. Learn to save no matter how small, save for future ideas that might want to be worked on, save to invest, save to be safe.

4.GOD: This cannot be overemphasized. We can’t be successful without our Creator. Muslim, Christian, even the traditional worshippers. we can’t do it without the giver of SUCCESS. We can’t do it without His guidance. This is the most important reason.

 

 

Dr. Myles Munroe wrote: the richest place in the world is the graveyard, cause a lot of people have died with potentials that would have changed the world, that would have made an impact. Don’t owe the world a change. Stay relevant and keep exploring your Potentials.
