INSOMNIA - Here Are 5 Tips To Help You Deal With Your Inability To Sleep

Everybody needs to sleep, everyone needs to rest their body. because if you don't, the consequences could be very bad.

I would love to prove this to you.

How? You say.

Well I'll be doing this by telling you a TRUE STORY!!!

Why will this suffice as a proof? You say.

Well, I let you know that since the beginning of time, even before man existed, stories have always been used to help man experience things they were not there to experience themselves, or things that they could never experience and these people that these stories were told to, usual just believe these stories. Unlike you sophisticated human. Anyways, I'm still going to be using my story as a proof. So you either take it or live (please take it🥺).

This story I am about to tell you happened on a day like on like every other day. It was a beautiful day, the sky was clear, the sun was shining bright In the sky, giving the sand on the ground a golden like colour, the birds were chirping and even the tress were waving as the wind gently...

Actually scratch that! The day wasn't like any other day, neither was it like the paradise(or whatever) I was trying to describe back there.

On this day, sapa had me by my neck, it's hand's were literally on my throat trying to strangle the air out of my lungs(I'm sorry, it was not as serous as that, that's just my dramatic side), it was not that bad, it was terrible(I apologize again, it's just that the story brings back memories😩). But the fact was I was broke(as in I no get shin shin), and hungry which means I was also tired. I hope you are beginning to get the picture.

I had reached out to a couple of people the other day, but na missed call and voicemail e dey enter.

Then God answered me, and provided a wedding ceremony for me to attend out of the blue. 

If you know me, I am not the M.G.M.Y(Mó Gbó Mó Yà)kind of person, in case you were wondering "what the heck that was?" Well what it means is you going to an event you were not invited to, simply because of the benefits of the events. In this case, food was the benefit. Yeah I did what I had to do to survive, I'm sorry. For those of you who had placed me on a pedestal, I'm sorry for disappointing you. What can I say, I'm only human.

Well after the wedding, I returned home. Jumped on my bed, I could finally get some sleep. The state of my body was zen👌🏾, it had finally achieved homeostasis. But something I didn't expect happened.

What happened? you say

Well, i realized that I couldn't sleep, although i still felt tired, I just couldn't get some sleep. I tried so hard, I even cloesd my eyes. Yeah! I did, I was that desperate. But it still didn't work.


Then later that day I was talking to a friend of mine and then I told him how I was unable to sleep some hours back even though I was tired. And he immediately told me, you might be scared or worried. I was like "scared of what?"

Then immediately, it hit me. I realized I was in denial, denial that sapa had gotten me. I could finally understand why I was unable to sleep.

It was until I had dealt with sapa and won, that I was able to sleep.

Moral of the story? 

Sapa is sneaky, cunning and dangerous. But sapa can be defeated, sapa can be stopped.


Anyways getting sleep is very important and if you are not getting enough, it could be dangerous. here's why?

  • Sleep deprivation disrupts the daily fluctuations in appetite hormones.
  • Without sleep your brain starts to malfunction and you might start hallucinating.
  • People who get less sleeps have grater risks of getting a heart attack. There is this story of a boy who didn't sleep for about 11 days, for research purposes. and let me tell you, the end result wasn't great.

It has been established that getting good sleep is important. But, what do we do when we can't sleep. We try and try, but we can't just go to bed. Here are some things you could do that might help you.

  • 1. Check if it is sapa at work and tackle it immediately like I did. (I'm sorry I just could not let it go. Yeah! I know, so childish of me)

  • Are You At Peace: If you are at peace and your minid is calm, you will sleep. Check what's troubling you, if you can fix it immediately, then do that, and if you can't just relax and stop worrying about it. You can do this by meditating, reading a book, listing to soothing songs...
  • Make Sure You Are Comfortable: Sometimes all you need is just to make sure your body is in a comfortable environment, and in the right conditions. I've come to realize that my first night in a new environments isn't always smooth, I find it hard to sleep in new environments because I'm usually not comfortable, but when I do I sleep like an angel 😇
  • Know Yourself: I know some who find it hard to sleep in quiet places, it's weird but it is what it is, I know someone who after eating heavy food (eba, iyan and the likes) find it hard to sleep. You need to understand your body, everyone is a little different find what your body like and do it.
  • Exercise: Go Jogging, Run, do some push ups make sure you are fit. What I am trying to say is during the day try to do tasking tasks (don't mind my word) things that would tire you out, deplete your energy reserve and knock you out (well on your bed).
  • Seek Medical Help: Sometimes, your lack of sleep might be due to deep psychological reasons and doing everything above won't help until you see a professional for help.
